What to expect in therapy? Before the first session, you will complete the intake paperwork. During the intake session, your clinician will ask you questions about your concerns, your history, and get to know you as a person a little better. You also get to experience how it is like to work with the clinician and if their style is a good fit for you. In follow-up sessions, you get to decide how you’d like to spend the time on and what topic is important for you to discuss. Your clinician will also check in with you periodically to see how therapy is going for you and if any adjustment is needed. We highly value collaboration with our clients and we’d appreciate it if you can share any feedback and needs you have directly with your clinician or with Dr. Yuxin Sun.

How does confidentiality work?Confidentiality is the cornerstone of effective therapeutic relationships. We as healthcare professionals have the obligation to keep things about you confidential, which means we cannot deny or confirm whether you are a client of ours, and we will need your written permission for us to share any information you’d like us to share with the party of your choice. The exceptions to confidentiality are if there’s any imminent danger to yourself or others, if you inform us any minors or vulnerable adults are being suspected of abuse or neglect, and in court cases if the judge subpoenas your treatment records.

What is the difference between in-person and virtual appointments? It depends on your preferences and circumstances! Essentially, the effectiveness of therapy does not differ much in regards to in-person or virtual services, you can decide what works the best for you. Things that our clients tend to consider when deciding on in-person or virtual appointments: commute time to the office; tendency to be distracted in front of an electronic device; privacy at home/work during session; distractibility in the environment; preference for in-person connection, etc.
-
What payment methods do you accept? We accept cash, Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover, and Health Savings Account.

Do you provide support for FMLA?Our clinicians have experience providing supporting documentations should our clients need to utilize FMLA benefits for recovery from mental health concerns. For our existing and on-going clients, please discuss your specific needs with your clinician and ask any questions you have about what we are able to provide as well as how the process of application looks like. For new/potential clients, please specify your needs at the beginning of treatment. If in the process of working together, your clinician assesses that you meet diagnostic criteria for a mental health disorder and your mental health concerns can benefit from taking time off from work, we'd be happy to assist you in applying for FMLA. It usually takes about 3-5 sessions for your clinician to get a clear and accurate assessment of your mental health status. For new/potential clients who need more immediate assistance in application for FMLA, we understand that there may be time constrains based on individual situation. If you need to take time off from work soon while working on your mental health issues in therapy, we provide psychological assessments to help accelerate the process of diagnosis and documentation. Please communicate with your clinician directly about your situation and your needs. The assessment process includes an 1-hour intake, 1-2 hours of test administration, and 1-2 hours of scoring and writing. Please note, this is a collaborative and on-going process between you and your clinician. We work with our clients closely and continuously on recovery from their mental health struggles to be better prepared to return to work. After the initial application of FMLA, you and your clinician will be asked to provide supporting documentations periodically by HR and the insurance company. For individuals who are only interested in obtaining FMLA supporting documentation without engaging in therapy treatment, we would suggest seeking the documentation from your primary care provider. As an ethical practice, we are only able to provide this supporting service to individuals who are interested in personal growth and recovery in therapy.
