Sunburst Psychology is a group practice that specializes in working with high-achieving and neurodiverse individuals and couples in high-pressure environments. We provide individual therapy, couples therapy, and assessment to help those who never feel “good enough” and are exhausted from the constant worries to quiet down the mind to find real peace. We offer high-quality, collaborative, and customized mental health services to meet clients where they are with their own unique lived experiences and identities.

We believe in the ripple effect. In our practice, we work with people in power, people with influence. If we can help them access their emotions and heal, how much impact will that have on the people they are mentoring and employing? How much impact will that have on their children, whose privilege will position them well to be part of the next generation of leaders? Healing is for everyone, and every person impacted by the power of transformational healing can in turn transform their world.

We offer a welcoming, compassionate, and collaborative work environment to clinicians and support staff. We are a community of individuals who see each other’s light, help each other grow, and celebrate each of our own journeys. We believe that when you feel empowered and valued, you bring the best version of yourself to the important work that you do.

Sunburst Psychology provides a variety of psychological services, including individual therapy, relationship therapy, psychological assessment, and workshops/trainings/consultation. We offer both in-person and virtual appointments. Our clinicians are relational and process-oriented, and we welcome clinicians with diverse training and work experiences.

Below are our open positions. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.

 Working at Sunburst FAQs

  • This is a W-2 position. We highly value the quality of services provided at Sunburst Psychology, as well as clinician’s overall wellbeing. Having the W-2 employment structure allows us to ensure high quality of services and provide various benefits for clinicians.

  • Growing the clinicians’ clinical skill and ensuring high-quality of clinical service is at the core of our values. We provide weekly or biweekly individual supervision by licensed psychologists (applicable to LMHCA, AMFT, and LASW), and biweekly group supervision by licensed psychologists. We also connect with colleagues in the community to provide various types of training and presentations on topics that are of interest to the clinical team.

On occasion, when clinician needs to consult on topics that are beyond the areas of competency of the supervisors, we help connect the clinician with an expert in the particular area and pay for the one-time consultation fee.

  • It depends! We strive to see the strengths and natural talents in each and every clinician; given that each clinician is different in their natural talents and interests, the growth path would be different.

Some clinicians may grow into an expert in certain clinical areas, some may grow into a clinical supervisor to contribute to the training, some may grow into leadership role such as clinical director or manager, and some may grow into excellent consultants for other companies and teams.

At Sunburst Psychology, we work with you to explore on your passion and discover your strengths. Clinicians who are naturally curious and open to try new things often fit well with our clinical team.

  • We offer friendly, welcoming, and collaborative work environment. We encourage team members to share who they are both as a clinician and as a human at Sunburst. Our clinicians are free to share what they feel passionate about, what they struggle with, and what they want to explore further.  We also try to celebrate important moments and holidays with each other by sharing small treats, going for outings, and meeting up for good food. We also love a good laugh—clinical work and life can get heavy sometimes, we like to share moments of humor and lightheartedness with each other. Interestingly, we all love animals (not an interview screening question, just an interesting coincident)!

  • Yes, we do hire associates. What we are looking for is clinical skills and emotional maturity. At Sunburst Psychology, we uphold a high-standard quality of care, which requires the clinician to have a certain level of skills as well as emotional maturity. We also recognize that sometimes, clinicians have an innate clinical instinct and talent that may not match with their license status or years of clinical experience. Hence, we encourage those who are aligned with the values of Sunburst Psychology and have good clinical skills/instincts to apply for open positions.

  • Yes, we provide weekly or biweekly individual supervision by licensed psychologists, and biweekly group supervision by licensed psychologists (applicable to LMHCA, AMFT, and LASW).

  • It depends on the supervisor. Mostly, we strive to foster a safe and welcoming environment where clinicians are free to bring up wins, struggles, and needs. We are collaborative, person-centered, and relationship/dynamic-oriented.

  • Yes, we do. We offer two types of healthcare benefits to clinicians—1. If you already have healthcare coverage through family or spouse, we provide monthly healthcare stipend; 2. If you would like to get your own healthcare insurance through Sunburst, we offer 3 tiers of healthcare insurance plan that you can choose from based on your healthcare needs.

  • We offer continuing education stipend, paid sick leave, paid personal time off, and supervision/consultation with experienced psychologists! We also offer beautiful office space with snacks and NA drinks for you to enjoy.

  • We believe when clinicians feel grounded and safe, they do fantastic work with clients. Burnout is something we actively work to prevent at Sunburst Psychology. Clinicians take sick time off and personal time off as they see fit. We also organize team outings that are not clinical—to share a good laugh, enjoy the weather (when the sun is out), get close to nature, and have good food. We also like to share memories from travel and exciting moments in life with each other. Our team culture values transparency and direct communication, we encourage clinicians to be transparent about their needs and limitations.

  • We are mostly flexible, with caveats! You get to decide what hours during the day that you’d like to work—if we realize that your ideal clients are not likely to make it to the hours you have available, then we will talk with you to adjust the availability to make sure that you get to work with your ideal clients.

We mostly work on weekdays (M-F), if you prefer to work on weekends, we will have to arrange certain administrative tasks and logistics ahead of time to accommodate the schedule.

  • Yes, we offer sponsorship for OPT and H1B. We have not yet explored the possibility of green card sponsorship—hopefully as Sunburst grows, we will be able to offer the green card sponsorship.

  • Being a private-pay-only practice, it means that the timeline for reaching a full caseload is longer than an insurance-based practice.

Depending on the time you start at Sunburst, your niche/specialties, and your enthusiasm in connecting with communities and colleagues, it takes from 3 to 7 months to build a full caseload.

To ensure certain level of income for the clinician in the process of building the caseload, we encourage you to front-load your paid marketing hours and training hours, including but not limited to onboarding hours, blog-writing, providing workshops, running groups, attending networking events, etc.

You won’t start with a big check from the get-go; however, once you build a consistent caseload, you will be able to work less hours with similar or higher pay compared to working at an insurance-based practice. For clinicians who are not comfortable or have difficulties with this financial transitional period, Sunburst may not be a good fit for you.

  • At Sunburst, we value high-quality clinical service for our clients as well as well-being of our clinicians. Hence, we strive to build a space where clinicians get to focus on both their clinical work and advancement of the clinical skills.

You will spend the majority of your time on providing clinical service, attending supervision/training, and completing clinical paperwork. We do ask clinicians to spend 4 hours per month on connecting with other providers, connecting with local communities, and non-clinical ways of connecting with your ideal clientele.

What we take care of for you—screening of potential clients, client communication, billing, marketing, manage tax withholdings, office furnishing and management, accounting, bookkeeping, website building and management, healthcare insurance management, building and managing practice policies and processes, majority of administrative tasks of running a mental health practice, etc.

  • At Sunburst, we invest significantly in the growth and development of our clinicians, including time, effort, space, and resources. As such, we are looking for clinicians who are equally committed to growing with us and investing in their development within our practice.

Historically, we have found that individuals who are more focused on growing a private practice, rather than growing as part of the Sunburst team, tend not to be the best fit for our practice. Our priority is building a cohesive, supportive team that can cheer each other on, celebrate wins with each other, and thrive together.

  • If you are someone who is passionate about clinical work and clinical advancement, but feels discouraged or dreadful about the administrative and business side of running a mental health practice, then Sunburst will be a good fit for you—we create space for clinicians to focus on clinical advancement, see the clients, and go home without worrying about running the business. Your time outside of work would be truly yours to spend with loved ones and on things that bring you joy.

If you find yourself feeling curious and excited about building a business, creating and managing a website, managing client communication and billing, bookkeeping, marketing, etc., then running your own private practice would be a great new adventure for you! We’d love to see you in the therapist community and hope to collaborate with you in the future.
